Community Services Day

Posted: December 9, 2024 | Author: erin

Earlier this year, The Centre was buzzing with excitement as Community Services Day made its highly anticipated return!  Families gathered on Saturday, October 5th, from 10am to 1pm, ready for a day filled with FREE activities and vibrant community spirit.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for attendees to meet the local heroes who work tirelessly to keep our community safe. Residents interacted with representatives from Ambulance Victoria, Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police, Coast Guard, SES, and more. It was a fantastic chance for kids and adults alike to learn about the vital work these services play in our community every day.

Younger attendees had a blast in our FREE Little Responder Zone, where they could explore the world of emergency services. Kids created personalised Emergency Services themed badges, face painting and dove into all sorts of fun activities just for them.

Community Services Day was truly a celebration of our community. Attendees enjoyed performances from the Northern Bay College Dance teams, The Victorian Police Pipe Band and Craig Meddings kept the energy up throughout the day even when the weather decided to bring a little rain, in true Victorian fashion.

This event successfully brought people together, showed gratitude for local heroes and created lasting memories for all those who attended. Whether participants came for the demonstrations, the activities, or simply to connect with others, the day was an undeniable success.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us at Corio Village on October 5th for this wonderful celebration of community spirit! We can’t wait to see you all again next year!

Supporting Northern Bay College

Northern Bay College’s SEED (Sports, Empowerment, Education, and Development) program plays a crucial role in enhancing employment opportunities for our youth as they prepare to transition from school. Beginning in grades 5 and 6, students gain access to the Seedling Program, which seamlessly guides them through various SEED initiatives throughout their educational journey.

Launched in 2018 with just 14 students, SEED now serves an impressive 80% of the student body across all five campuses.

Here are some standout SEED programs:

Track Club
Every Tuesday morning, professional coaches help students develop essential running skills while emphasizing the importance of competition and hard work.

Blue Connect
This program builds meaningful connections between Victoria Police, Corio Village, and the students and staff of Northern Bay College. Every Friday morning, students, staff, and members of the Corio Village CMO team gather with Vic Police for an energising exercise program focused on fostering connections and promoting positive attitudes. After the workout, everyone enjoys a connection breakfast, engaging in discussions on vital topics such as respect and community values.

The SEED program has successfully encouraged students to pursue further studies in education and sports pathways whilst also seeking employment opportunities at the Centre during their school years. This initiative has been proudly supported by A Cut Above Family Butcher, Corio Fruit and Veg Market, and Corio Village for the past three years.  We look forward to continuing this essential community partnership for many more years to come.
